Beyond the Buzz: How AI Saves Money in Litigation Without Breaking the Bank

Let's continue to talk about AI. The buzz about AI in our industry is about how generative AI can help review your documents. While Generative AI is powerful and effective, it may not be the best fit for some clients who perceive it as too risky and expensive.

There are two main ways AI can save you money in litigation.

  • AI offers a welcome relief to legal teams, enabling them to handle their everyday tasks more efficiently, even when faced with vast amounts of data.

  • Analyzing ESI to find key evidence to win their cases saves time and, therefore, time spent on review and investigations, which all boil down to money.

Generative and traditional AI excel at categorizing, summarizing, and extracting facts from large amounts of data, reviewing media for minute details, and learning and executing well-documented tasks.

For instance, our AI-powered eDiscovery Query Assistant is a time-saving marvel. It allows legal professionals to input their data queries in natural language, and the AI, drawing from subject matter expertise and litigation search best practices, provides them with complex queries and detailed justifications in seconds. What could take a legal professional hours or days, AI accomplishes in seconds, with defensible justifications.

A great example of using AI to save money by finding key evidence to win their cases can be illustrated with our use of Computer Vision AI to see things that the human eye cannot detect or at least not easily. We used computer vision AI to investigate an explosion at an industrial plant where the insurance company needed to prove that a faulty device caused the accident. The legal team faced several significant challenges in finding key evidence. With over ten thousand images to review, the scale of the task was daunting. The plant's destruction had turned it into a vast, challenging site for locating objects in the ESI. There was no certainty that the device was even there or where it could be located on the site.

The legal team knew that the case would be solved in their client's favor if the device could be located. They also knew that if they spent any significant budget or resources and were unsuccessful at locating the device, the client would have perceived it as a waste of money and time. Traditional methods were unsuitable, as the amount of ESI to review was too vast and expensive.

They came to us, and we scrutinized the photos using our Next-Generation AI solutions. Within 24 hours, we located evidence of the device. Without our solutions, the evidence would never have been found. Our solutions solved the case and saved the client what could have amounted to millions of dollars in benefit payouts.
